“Focus more on who your child is than what your child does. Remember, you're growing a person, not fixing a problem.”
― L.R. Knost
I admire parents and teachers who are serious about the responsibility of raising and teaching children. In my opinion, it's simltaneously the greatest joy and greatest challenge. But childhood isn’t a checklist of behaviors to correct — it’s a journey of becoming, -becoming what? When we focus on "raising children," we get a society of adults in arrested development. Self-serving, self-centered, entitled. So rather than raising and teaching children, let's remind ourselves that our role is to raise caring, responsible, grateful adults. Nurturing quality character traits and leading by example.
