Being sidelined from the “carousel of life” and relegated to watching the wheels go ‘round and round from a distance, is not my happy place. Having to live with the use of only one hand due to a recent surgery (fortunately not my dominant hand,) has been far from fun or easy. Then just as things were healing nicely and on the way to normalcy, being knocked down by the flu for a few days was not in the plan. You know what they say, Flu happens.
Now if you’re expecting, “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone,” you and Joni Mitchell are right about that but I’m not going down that long and winding road. Because I had no choice in the matter but to go through it, I’ve learned that instead of lashing out against what is imposed on me, leaning in takes less energy and seems to get me back to being me, a lot sooner. I guess that’s what they call the wisdom of the years. The wisdom of my years is also telling me to bookmark this article for the next time I get kicked off the carousel.
